Disposing of PCs
"In 2007, around 160 million coporate PCs will be "retired" worldwide, according to analysts at IT market research company Gartner. Of course, 41 per cent will go into storage and 32 per cent will go to landfill. Just 27 per cent, meanwhile, will be recycled"Jessica Twentyman. Director. October 2007
Religion & Academics
"Religion has powerful and important things to say about how we should be in the world. It is important that we have the courage to introduce ideas based on our traditions into debate. After all, how can we honestly pursue academic freedom and academic truth if we ignore or devalue any potential source of understanding and knowledge?"Joseph Mintz Principal Lecturer in Education at London South Bank University
When the railways were privatised towards the end of the last Conservative Government there was huge criticism. This was one privatised step too far.
The journey from them until now has been a terrible one in part. The project management was shambolic and the great British public endured year after year of poor rolling stock, shocking delays and poor customer relations.
But Network Rail's recent strategic business plan reveals that demand for rail travel is now higher than it ever has been and hat Government estimates have greatly underestimated people's desire for quality train travel.
1.15bn trips were made on the train in Britain last year - that is 130m more than in France.
There are, of course, still huge issues with regards to cost. delivery and even safety.
But Brits love the train and the delivery of a quality, sustainable service is more important than ever.
